74. New soap operas ?

Re: Editorial—Clear the decks on APEC, Dec 9th.

When the Globe and Mail announces that students won the APEC media battle and therefore our public attentions should now be re-focused, you have to wonder what political discourses the editorial board thinks are deserving of continued newspaper scrutiny.
If the APEC story is the worse for wear where does that leave the unite-the-right pantomime — who will play the nodding head and who the donkey’s behind? — or the by-pass surgery of the federal Tory party?
What of the millions of politically active whose material and emotional stakes are in none-of-the-above?
As a private news network of political fictions, I am always surprised that the Globe does not think of adding other public affairs “shows.” The policy competences and incompetences of electoral politics are episodes of dramas run a few too many times.
A tri-weekly soap opera fashioned from social movement politics, cultures and gossip has an audience waiting to be informed and entertained either in this or a third national newspaper.
