Re: Letters - Strongly committed to Canadian films (Nov 13).
I fail to see what Cineplex Odeon Corp. CEO, Allen Karp is strongly committed to. I would have thought that 6% of screen time for Canadian film was rather a weak commitment barely deserving of membership in the Canadian Film Centre or the Academy of Canadian Film and Television.
I am certainly not impressed by Cineplex’s strong committment to ensuring that its facilities are understaffed. The last film I saw as a “guest” of Cineplex Odeon cost me eight dollars. For this the theatre was a foot deep in old popcorn and the movie was out of focus.
Mr Karp only half-apologises to those “patrons” who do not want to be named as the excuse for Cineplex Odeon’s policing operations. Following the Genies I therefore would like to see Mr. Karp personally present filmmaker, John Greyson with an additional ‘Jack Valenti 94% Inappropriate Disruption Award’ for surviving Cineplex Odeon’s need to protect “the integrity of the movie-going experience”.
